Review of 2010 - Business
Last year was an interesting one for all of us here at CK21.
It was a year that saw the construction industry battered by recession but also our fifth anniversary and a steadying of our workload, with even an increase in our staff numbers with David Lamb joining the infrastructure section in March. Phillippa also attained the RMAPS qualification and is carrying out the CDM-C role with assistance from John.
Various projects were on-going through the year. Riverside Dene (Cruddas Park) has gone from strength to strength with the revitalised apartment blocks becoming an iconic symbol at the entry to Newcastle city centre. South Tyneside Homes work has developed all year with over 400 houses along with12 sheltered housing schemes retrofitted to decent homes standard and some with renewable energy installations. Rio Tinto Alcan has had many smaller complicated structural designs completed in line with their on-going maintenance of the works in Blyth.
New projects that have commenced and been completed include the North East Autistic Society Day Care Centre in County Durham, the Grove Medical Group in Gosforth, various primary and secondary schools in the north east, alterations to the Imperial Hotel (Holiday Inn) in Jesmond and installations at South Tyneside College and Grundfos.
CK21 have been appointed as CDM-C to some of the aforementioned projects as well as separate appointments for numerous school refurbishment projects, commercial alterations, doctors' surgeries and housing developments throughout the north east.
